When it comes to choosing a paint color for your kitchen cabinets, white is a classic and popular choice. Don’t believe me? Ask your realtor. Or designer. In fact, ask literally anyone (who is not on HGTV trying to sell you something). White kitchen cabinets create a bright and clean look that can make your kitchen feel more spacious and welcoming. And best of all it’s SAFE because white really does Go With Everything.
With so many shades of white available, it can be challenging to choose the right one for your kitchen. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the most popular white paint colors for kitchen cabinet painting in 2023. Please note this list is based on real-life experience over the course of refinishing/painting roughly 300 sets of kitchen cabinets. This is our “safe” list. At some point there will be a companion blog about daring and fun colors as well. But statistically the vast majority of you are looking for a neural, goes with everything white cabinet paint. So here we go!
- Pure White (SW 7005)
Pure White is a bright and clean white that works well with any style of kitchen. It’s a popular choice for homeowners who want to create a timeless and classic look in their kitchen. In fact it is literally the most common paint we have used to this date. This color pairs well with any other color or material in your kitchen, making it a versatile choice. Think of it as a bright white with just enough black (which tends to show gray) to take the edge off. Or said differently, to make it less stark/less like a hospital white. Pure White pairs well with: SW Agreeable Gray, SW Repose Gray, Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, Benjamin Moore Gray Owl, and SW Canvass Tan.
- Alabaster (SW 7008)
Alabaster is a warm and creamy white that gives your kitchen cabinets a cozy and inviting feel. It’s a popular choice for farmhouse-style kitchens, but it also works well with modern or traditional designs. This color is also a great choice if you want to add some depth and dimension to your kitchen cabinets. Similar to Pure White and our 2nd most common choice, this color has a little more depth to it. Alabaster pairs well with SW Kilim Beige, SW Accessible Beige, SW Amazing Gray, SW Sea Salt, and SW Wool Skein.
- Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore
Chantilly Lace is a cool and crisp white that works well with contemporary and modern-style kitchens. It has a slight blue undertone, which gives it a fresh and airy feel. This color also pairs well with light-colored countertops and backsplashes. And our designer friend British Andrea says she “loves it with stainless steel appliances.” Chantilly Lace pairs well with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, Benjamin Moore Gray Owl, Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist, and a plethora of other dark colors.
4. Extra White (SW 7006)
Extra White is a pure and bright white that works well with any style of kitchen. It’s a popular choice for homeowners who want to create a crisp and clean look in their kitchen. Despite the name, this color does have a VERY subtle hint of blue and gray to it. But if you are looking for an “as bright and clean as possible” white, this is the one for you. Extra White pairs well with literally anything, however, please be aware it will make trim that is NOT extra white appear darker.
5. Greek Villa (SW 7551)
Greek Villa is a warm and soft white that works well with traditional and farmhouse-style kitchens. It has a yellow undertone, which gives it a cozy and inviting feel. This color works well with warm wood tones and brass or gold hardware. We see this paint taking the place of the classic SW Shell White. We even have a local builder in Mechanicsburg that uses it as his trim and ceiling color for new construction. Greek Villa pairs well with SW Balanced Beige, SW Modern Gray, SW Accessible Gray, and SW Repose Gray.

- Naval (SW 6244)
If you’re looking for a bold and dramatic color for your kitchen cabinets, Naval is a great option. Especially with the amount of Penn State and Pitt fans we have in Central PA. This rich navy blue color adds depth and sophistication to any kitchen, even if you don’t care about football. This is by far our most common of all accent cabinet colors.
2. Urbane Bronze (SW 7048)
Urbane Bronze is a beautiful and moody dark gray color that’s fun accent for kitchen cabinets. It adds a touch of elegance and drama to any kitchen. This color also pairs well with natural wood tones and metallic accents. And we are seeing more and more wood tones mixing with paint in 2023.
3. Tricorn Black (SW 6258)
Tricorn Black is a classic and timeless black color that’s perfect for kitchen cabinets. It adds a touch of sophistication and elegance to any kitchen. The “tuxedo” trend has been around for ages, however, we don’t think it is going anywhere anytime soon. Black is a little harder to pull off than the above mentioned accents. Get a 2nd opinion before committing this one – but when it works, it works!
